What Are You Grateful For?
24 Nov 20214: Anna Parkins
November is the month of Gratitude, however, at any time I ask the question: “What Are You Grateful For?” Are you grateful for material abundance or spiritual gifts? Is saying “Thank You” a daily habit? Do you shower your family and friends with complimentary words? Do you express gratitude for your body, your mind, your spirit? Have you ever written letters to old acquaintances who helped you to say “Thank You” for their inspiration, ideas, support, mentorship, even love. And then mail the letter or burn the letter in a ritual.
When we were children we learned to say “Thank You” along with “Please” and “Excuse Me” or “Pardon Me.” Manners maketh a man is an idiom that has been around since the 1300’s. And it’s still true today. Just look around you. We remember kindness, genuine consideration, verbal or written notes of gratitude for special occasions or just because.
One of Jack Canfield’s quotes is “Gratitude is the single most important ingredient to living a successful and fulfilled life.” After forty years, Canfield is still promoting good habits, as well as life planning, etc.
Popular and trendy is the practice of writing a daily Gratitude Journal. Proved to help mental health, this might be a resolution for you. If journaling in a plain or fancy notebook is not your style, then how about a challenge to verbalize what you are grateful for at the end of the day?
Daily I thank my angels, my guides, my teachers, the Divine, the Higher Consciousness by whatever name I use. Speaking out loud is very effective and I have no hesitation in thanking the drivers around me, thanking the Nature Spirits, etc. This practice also makes me feel good. Let’s up our gratitude quotient, there is so much we can be grateful for.
